Funeral Scams

This post is written to bring about awareness that scammers or fraudsters have upped their game to use us, funeral companies in their ploy to get back at someone or just to pull a joke at someone. The perpetrator would input essential details of the person whom they are trying to get at which usually consists of the person’s name, mobile and email into the enquiry form present on most funeral companies’ websites and request a call back as soon as possible. These details would oftentimes be accurate, meaning that the mobile provided would match the name given in the enquiry form.

Funeral companies would then call these persons up and that is when we will be informed by enraged persons on the other end of the phone call telling us that no one around them is passing away. At times, they would order floral wreaths and have them sent to residential addresses either to scare the recipient or to prank them. This could be a new scheme devised by loan providing companies. Do keep a look out for such scams and please do not blame the funeral companies for reaching out if we do receive such an enquiry. We usually verify the person by name before proceeding to explain what the phone call is about.
