I like to take pictures. Not because I am a narcissist (Ah, okay, maybe a little >.<). On a serious note; it’s more of how a picture can capture the essence of emotions, can capture a particular moment which would never happen ever again in our lives. Every moment is special and unique it its own ways.
Today, as I was sieving through the images in my phone, I came across 1000000000 pictures (I am exaggerating but you get the picture) that were related to work, a bulk of them being pictures taken together with my most treasured colleagues. The walk in the funeral line has not been the easiest, nor the most favourable especially since I am a female (Talk about gender stereotypes) but I am thankful to have these colleagues whom I call friends who stood by me. They make working so much more bearable and even fun at times (Fulfiling the Fun in the Funeral).
We don’t always work well together. Each and every one of us have our flaws but yet we complement each other and we got each other’s back. People out there, it’s not easy being a pallbearer. The sheer weight of the coffin is already heavy enough. Needless to say, the weight of the dearly departed together with the coffin is much heavier. Pallbearers do a lot of manual work and their pay isn’t particularly high. So please appreciate them and respect their jobs. Who else would help out in making sure your loved ones have their final rites duely performed if not for them?
I am really thankful to have been given the privilege to work with these special people:
Neo – Thank you for being with me from the start when I was so nervous meeting clients the first time. Thank you for always making sure justice is met and that I am well taken care of.
Ah Lam (Oldest Worker in the company) – Thank you for being so concerned about my health that you’d restrain from smoking whenever I am around, and for sharing with me the traditions associated with the Taoist and Buddhist funerals.
Kueh – You’ve been the latest addition to our company and thank you for always being so hardworking and helpful.
Ashwin – You, you’re the most annoying but yet the most hilarious. Thank you for helping the company with all the admin and coordination work. Thank you for being able to think on your feet on the spot to help me whenever help is needed.
Eugene (Youngest in the company) – I feel so responsible for this guy’s growth because I roped him in but to my amazement, he’s doing a great job assimilating into the company. Thank you for being a constant source of joy by sending queer pictures into our chat group and for being so protective of me.
Wei Jian – Thank you for always reminding me of the small little things and of helping me with the small little things too. Thankful you had a short stint with us.
Bernard – Thank you for accompanying me for night services and for the milo pengs you’ve bought just to make my day.
Vincent – Thank you for the occasional snacks and the encouragement rendered!
Neez – You’re the best! Thank you for being a constant source of emotional support and for always being so encouraging, so motherly.
Thank you guys for opening up to me and for allowing me into your lives.
I won’t know for sure how long my stint would be, nor if God calls me elsewhere someday, but I’d take heart and be joyful that I’d had this chance to work closely with you guys in this life.
Always remember my dear boys, that you guys are capable of achieving more, and that by doing things from your heart, by being a sincere and genuine person, you’d go further in life. I know sometimes experiences has made us jaded about human nature but don’t lose heart because it does not mean that everyone is the same.
Love, Harmony Tee <3
