Singapore Baby Funerals

The heart wrench associated with the loss of a child is indescribable. There is no one way to conduct a funeral for your child. What is paramount is that it honors your baby in a way that meets you and your spouse’s needs. Some people prefer a low-key, private memorial whilst others welcome the support from a larger group. The choice should lie solely on you and your spouse.

Elements Of A Baby Funeral

Embalming is not normally done on small babies who have just died. In Singapore, when a baby less than the age of 22 weeks passes on and a Birth Certificate for the baby has not been obtained, cremation of the baby can only be done after a memo signed by the doctor has been obtained. The memo should contain the age of the baby and a note stating that it can be cremated (Please see image below). Check with your clinic or hospital on whether the baby would be issued an official Death Certificate or Certificate Of Stillbirth.

If the features of the baby are already formed, getting a coffin for the final send off is encouraged. If the features of the baby have yet to be formed, the baby can be cremated either in a box or coffin depending on the parents’ inclinations. We have different baby funeral packages designed to accommodate to the different needs of families. Call us now to find out more.

Family members can choose to place the baby’s personal belongings along with some flowers in the coffin together with the baby. To help with the Mum's healing process of losing her dear child, hand-written letters could also be placed in the coffin together with the baby. This helps the Mum to come to terms with the death of her child and it is a good way for the Mum to express her feelings and the pain that she is experiencing.

As a value-added service, we have partners working with us that provides angel gowns that are of smaller sizes specially for your baby just in case you are unable to find clothes of suitable sizes for your child.

If cremation is chosen, the baby ashes collected is little. Parents can choose to either:

  • Disperse the ashes at sea.
  • Intern the ashes at a columbarium in Singapore.
  • Keep the ashes in a keepsake urn to be stored at home. In modern days, ashes can even be stored in accessories like bracelets and necklaces.

To cater to families who wish to store the ashes at home, keepsake urns of functional properties are also sold. For example, an urn can be in the form of a tealight, where candles can be placed on top of the urn.
