When a believer of the Buddhist or Taoist religion dies due to either (1) an unfortunate  accident or (2) a suicide by choice, it is thought that the soul of the decedent is still in shock and hence probably stuck at the place where the accident or suicide happened. Hence, it is not uncommon to invite a Buddhist monk or Taoist priest to conduct a ritual to call the soul back.

Typically, this ritual has to be done at the place of accident or suicide. Fruit offerings and joss sticks are a common sight for this ritual. You would also need a set of clothes belonging to the deceased for this particular ritual.
