Retrieve Death Certificate Wherever You Are Via Your Phone! No More Hassle Of Going To The Hospital Or Police Station!
In line with Singapore’s government efforts to digitalise services to serve citizens better, with effect from 29 May 2022, death certificates can be obtained online. Of course, this means that hardcopies of death certificates will no longer be provided and only an electronic copy will be retrievable on My Legacy.
So what happens when a death occurs now is that the doctor will certify the death and input the details online. A next of kin of the deceased would need to visit My Legacy, click on “When Death Happens”
This will take you to the next page where the next of kin has to log in via his/her Singpass and key in some details of the decedent to obtain the death certificate.
Details to have on hand before logging into Singpass to obtain the death certificate are:
- Decedent’s NRIC/ FIN or passport number
- Death document number, which can be obtained from the hospital or the doctor who certified the death
- Date of death
This is good news to most of us as we can now obtain the official Death Certificate with just a tap on the mobile. This is in contrast to the traditional method of obtaining the death certificate where the next of kin would have to physically head down to a police post, the ICA building or hospital to report the death after obtaining a certificate of cause of death signed by a doctor.
