Singapore Sea Burial
In Singapore, there is a desginated area for sea burial which is located about 2.8 KM South of Pulau Semakau. The Maritime Port Authority allows ashes to be scattered in the sea from 7 AM to 7 PM daily. Do take note that on public holidays, the sea ports might be more crowded and surcharges might apply for the sea burial. Check with us to find out more.
There are three places in Singapore to depart from for a sea burial and each of the venue has different types of boats. Harmony Funeral Care caters to families with different preferences and wants. We have bump boats, big boats and even yachts available for the sea burial. Refreshments and sound system will be provided if the yacht option is chosen. Berthing points will be different for different options.
The default option for a sea burial is to wrap the ashes collected from the crematorium with a white or red cloth and then slowly lower the entire bag of ashes into the sea when we arrive at the designated area for sea burial. You can also choose to scatter the ashes with your hand first before lowering the bag of ashes. The other option is to use an urn to contain the ashes before lowering the entire urn down into the sea. For a more environmentally friendly alternative, use a bio-degradable urn.
Flowers are usually used in a sea burial. Flowers can be scattered floral petals or entire bouquets.
